X-Men we all know the story behind them, who they are, what they can do, were they come from. Wolverine is not just one of the main characters but one of the fans favourites. Now this game did not come out for any of these facts, it came out as a film tie in, now we all know film tie ins are never good but yet we still buy them. This one how ever was a very good game, a lot of effort went into the game play it may only be a hack and slash, action adventure which will follow some of the film but with the flash backs as well as the main story line, it tells you some of the things that he got up to before he became a X-Men.
Wolverine has a leveling system like most games now, you get XP from killing enemy’s with which you level. You can spend your points in upgrading your health to your different attacks which increases attack power and speed. You also pick up different perks as you go though the game that also increases different areas of your abilities which help you a lot as you go though the game.
They spent a lot of time and effort in the amount of detail in the damage system they used on Wolverine, when you get shot or hit with a rocket, you can see his clothes getting ripped and finally losing his shirt. He also starts to get bullet holes as well as massive wounds that appear to the extent of being able to see the Adamantium on his bones, then over time it will heal and all signs of the wounds will be gone. The fighting is brutal, from being able to cut people in half to being able to decapitated all parts of the body. Trust me when I say it can get messy, even more so when you have 10 people on you at once and you start to spin just slashing anyone that gets in your way.
Wolverine has two major abilities that you have to count on more than anything while playing the game, his abilities to regenerate and his feral sence. Regenerate heals you over time which is crucial when taking a lot of damage, Feral sence helps you in a number of different ways from showing you what walls you can climb up to help you progress. It also helps you in combat letting you know who the great threats are so you can take them out frist and quick.
While playing though the game you find some references to other games like Lost, you find the hatch in the middle of the jungle. Portal you find the legendary cake, YES the cake is not a lie and last the Would of Warcraft reference were you find the skeleton of Arthers with his sword in the ground next to him and above his body you can see a yellow !. A nice touch and unexpected surprise when I came across them.
So all in all if you want a mindless blood bath get this its well worth it.
