The first Call of Duty I played was Call of Duty 3. I really enjoyed it being a massive first person shooter fan but once I finished it that was it I never played it again. I never thought about playing the older ones at all, then CoD4 got released this is when I found out just how big the title really is. Working in a Game store does that to you, it shows you what the popular games are so I bought it and I never looked back.
The CoD4 story was amazing being one of the only war games I have played being set in modern times and it also has my favorite levels of any game in it All Gillied Up. CoD4 is one of the few games that made me want to play it on the hardest setting and what a challenge that was, but it was fun because you could not just fly thought it you had to plan your way though. Now the online side of it, I have one word to explain it addictive. It’s that type of game that one more game turns into a 2 hour session. I meet and became good friends with a lot of people while playing CoD4 and we still play together today, you know who you are so I will say hello. You have all types of games for Free for all to Search and Destroy, but I will never forget the carnage that headquarters on shipment caused the word mayhem dont even cut it. The online maps were fantastic from close combat to a snipers paradise, but when the DLC came out what a disappointment. One map pack in its full life, 4 maps and only one good one out the lot, we were all very disappointed. Last on CoD4 we have the Mile High Club, I did not see this coming I went to make a brew only to return to see 30 seconds left and under heavy fire, this level was above all others but on veteran well I am still trying to finnish it.
Right on to CoDWaW well after playing CoD4 everyone was very excited about the new game in the epic series, but what was so hyped was such a let down. Not only was it set around the world wars again this time you were fighting the Japanese. You have to ask yourself if they are going to keep this up untill every country that was in the war has stared in the game series. The single player campaign was no were near as good as CoD4, but it did have some good levels in it. The fact that you can do 4 player co-op thought it was an awesome idea this did put the game life up.
The multiplayer had all the same classic games CoD4 had and some of the levels were amazing but what really did help was the three map packs that came out. Against CoD4’s one map pack CoDWaW had out done it’s self with nearly all the levels being as good as the last and bringing in different types from towns to villages in full overgrowth. But it was none of the above that made CoDWaW live up to the rest it was the 4 zombie maps that had been introduced when they saw how popular the mile high club was. You may be thinking its nothing alike, and this is true but its the same thing, something completely different and this is what makes the difference between a good game and an elite game.
To this day you can ask people which CoD they like best? The biggest part of the people will say CoD4, ask them why and no one can give a straight answer including me. Thinking about it while writing this they are both as good as each other, just for different reasons. May it be the aspect of it being set in modern day or simply the fantastic zombie mode. Everyone will say something different but out the two CoD4 still wins my vote just dont ask me why!
